FairFuelUK Campaign

I am very aware of FairFuelUK’s campaign as many constituents have emailed me in support of this.

As I am sure many are aware, the country faces difficult decisions on spending, welfare and tax, due to the unfunded pledges made by the previous Government.

As many will also know, revenue from motoring taxes makes a crucial contribution in ensuring that we can continue to fund the vital public services and infrastructure that people in our area and across the country rightly expect.

It is in this context that the Chancellor will be making any decisions on taxes, including fuel duty, at the Budget on 30 October. I am not provided with the information as to whether there will be a change and how that would affect drivers yet, as the Chancellor has not provided me with that information.

The Government keeps all taxes under review, and I know that it is committed to ensuring the tax system raises revenue in a way that supports economic growth.

I also know that it will be considering the impact of fuel duty on households and businesses, as well as representations from a range of stakeholders, as part of this process.

More widely, I can also assure you that I am committed to supporting action to tackle some of the other issues affecting Britain’s drivers. For example, the Government has made a commitment to support motorists by tackling the high cost of car insurance. They will bring together industry experts, regulators and consumers to crack down on spiralling insurance prices.

I will monitor the progress of this, and I am happy to update constituents with any further developments to the matter of fuel tax. Please sign up to my monthly email update by following this link: Contact me — Cat Eccles MP for Stourbridge (cat4stour.co.uk)
